Amidst the covid-19 pandemic, it has become imperative to accelerate the provision of wash stations to as many persons and community as we can.

Rural communities without existing wash stations are less likely to wash their hands often, consequently the need for simple, affordable yet effective hand-wash stations.

Without simple facilities to encourage hand-washing, the knowledge of it becomes impracticable.

Sequel to our visits to some of these communities on Wash practices, hence the introduction and installation of tippy-taps in rural communities in Akure, Ondo State.

To the layman, Tippy-taps are not the exquisite and good looking hand washing facilities, to us they are simple yet effective means to ensure hand-washing in rural and marginalised communities.

You say “why Tippy-taps“?

 1 The Tippy-tap is a hands-free device, hence reducing the chance of pathogen transmission

 2 It is designed for rural areas where there is no running water and it minimises the quantity of water that goes into hand washing.

 3 It is easy to construct with low cost, improvised and salvaged materials.

 4 It’s a fun way to kick start hand washing with soap and help increase this behavior especially in a way that is appealing to children.
