The School Health Club is a program for secondary school students that is aimed at providing basic life skills for healthy living, leading to improved standards of living, and educational outcomes. The project places emphasis on hands-on learning to equip its participants with comprehensive knowledge in the areas of health, nutrition, and sound sanitary practices, and education. The project also aims at preparing the students for the future. The School Health Club promotes entrepreneurship, leadership, and writing and public speaking skills.
This is done with considerations to local conditions and challenges. We want to develop more health programs and initiatives that come directly from the students themselves, which they will create from their own knowledge and experiences. Participation in the School Health Club affords students the opportunity to become ‘Agents of Change’, who carry home and translate into action healthy habits and information they learn at school. In turn, this will positively influence the health and hygiene practices of their siblings, friends and parents.
